Accessible
only by water craft, Great Mackerel Beach is a 500 metre long
stretch of sandy beach on the north western side of Pittwater.
With only 140 homes, "Mackerel" as it is known to
locals, is a haven for those seeking solitude and an affinity
with nature and the elements. It is only a short boat ride
directly across the calm waters of Pittwater and is serviced
several times a day by the Palm Beach Ferry.
The only traffic residents are likely
to encounter in this tiny village is a procession of passing
ducks.
Property prices vary, depending upon
location and views. Original fisherman's cottages offer great
value for money while the uniquely positioned and highly sought
after properties on the hillside looking out over Pittwater,
Palm Beach and Lion Island are now worth over $1 million.
Mackerel Beach offers residents a tranquil,
year round holiday lifestyle lifestyle, isolated from the
hustle and bustle, yet only a 15 minute boat ride back to
civilisation.
